Restylane is a cosmetic filler that is injected into facial areas that experience a decrease in volume over time due to smoking, aging and sun damage. The filler diminishes and almost completely eliminates fine lines and wrinkles. The effects of Restylane last about 6 months, although with repeated treatments, studies have shown that it can last up to 18 months.
Botox is a substance that causes the temporary relaxation of muscles. It does this by blocking signals from the nerves to the muscles, so the injected muscle cannot contract. This makes the wrinkles relax and soften, reducing the appearance of them.
It is known primarily to be used for the reduction of facial lines and wrinkles, but botox injections are also used to treat problems like repetitive neck spasms, excessive sweating, overactive bladder, prevention of chronic migraines and some causes of crossed eyes.
Depending on the area being injected and the problem, botox injections generally only take a few minutes, with the use of a fine-needle injecting the botox into the affected area of muscles. It does not require any anesthesia, and it takes about three to seven days for it to take full effect.
